Marquis de la Villa Tinto
A rugged, flavour-packed red with aromas of damson and dried fruit and tremendous concentration of spicy, plummy fruit on the palate. Excellent with grilled meats, stews and sausages. (Tinta de Toro - Tempranillo)
Marques de la Villa Tinto de Toro is produced from vines with an average age of between 60 to 90 years. The grapes are given 20 days maceration on the skins and the resulting wine, nicnamed 'cojovino' by the Covitoro team, is a deeply coloured, flavour-packed,14% red.
Covitoro is Toro's second largest producer with over 1,000 hectares and the oldest vines in the region. Average production is less than 3.5 kg per vine and less than 1.5 kg for the older vines. The climate is continental and rainfall is just over 300 litres/m2. The vineyards are on average 750 metres above sea level and the soil is sandy/stony. 85% of the vines are bush trained and Covitoro adopt a policy of minimum intervention. Planting density is 2200 vines per hectare. Grapes are hand harvested in late September/early October. Marques de la Villa Tinto de Toro is produced from 60 to 90 year old Tinta de Toro vines
