Conde Valdemar Reserva
"Dark crimson-colored, it reveals an alluring nose of cedar, spice box, tobacco, black cherry, and blackberry. On the palate it displays considerable finesse along with plenty of ripe, spicy red and black fruit, a silky texture, and excellent balance. 90 points" - The Wine Advocate, February 2009
This reserva was aged for eighteen months in American and French oak barrels.
Unusually for Rioja, all the Valdemar grapes come from the family's own vineyards (almost 300 hectares), giving unrivalled control over the quality of the fruit at every level. Grapes for the Reserva are grown in Oyón (Rioja Alavesa), Logroño (Rioja Alta) and Ausejo (Rioja Baja). Harvest took place during the second week of October.
